Professional Data Collection Assignment (#4)

For this assignment, you will need to document your datacollection process and turn in a folder summarizing what you did.

The due date for the folder is no later than one week after youfinish collecting data, which should occur by mid-March.

If you are recruiting participants using the SONA system, you needto document / turn in the following:

• A copy of the sign-up sheet for any time that you posted (print this from the online experiment management system). Do this even if no one signed up for that time slot.
• The sign-up sheet should show check marks by each person who showed up on time to participate. (A copy of this is what you turn in to Richard Sylvester so he can give credit to participants.)
• For each sign-up sheet, note the date that you gave it to Richard.
• If you are using signed consent forms, these should be paper clipped in groups as they were collected. Place each group behind the corresponding sign-up sheet if you used the SONA system.

If for some reason you were not able to make it to the experiment,you should have a note explaining the circumstances. You should alsohave cancelled your sign-up online. If you couldn't get to acomputer, you should have called the department (468-4402).

If you are collecting data using a class with the instructor'spermission, you should document the following:

• The date, time, and location of the class.
• The professor's name and the course name (e.g. PSY 133).
• How many participants in each group.
• If you used signed consent forms, you should include those paper clipped in groups as they were collected.

If you are collecting data individually (e.g. faculty in theiroffices, surveys around campus or off-campus), you should documentthe following:

• The times, dates and locations of data collection. (Keep a journal style log.)
• If you used signed consent forms, you should include those paper clipped in groups (by date) as they were collected.

Finally, write your procedure used when collecting data. Includeany counterbalancing / matching procedures and the actual steps usedin your data collection process. This should be be considered anupdated draft of your revised procedure subsection in your methodsfor your final paper (because actual procedures often differ slightlyfrom proposed procedures).
