(Note: target is the L-shaped element with the corner oriented in the top-left quadrant.)

Return to summary of theexperiment.

Single Depth Plane

(Actual stimuli conditions included total distractor numbers of either 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30; when no target was present, an extra distractor was added)

10 distractors, target present

30 distractors, target absent

3 Depth Planes

(Total number of distractors was always 30, but there were conditions where either 5, 10, 15, or 20 of the distractors were in the target depth plane: front middle or back.)

Target is in the middle plane; 10 distractors also in middle plane.

Target is in the back plane; 10 distractors are also in the back plane.

Target is in the front plane; 20 distractors are also in the front plane.

"Cloud" Conditions

(Total number of distractors was either 10, 20, or 30. The target could appear in the front region, the middle plane of fixation, or the back region.)

Target is in the middle plane; there are 10 distractors.

Target is in the back region; there are 20 distractors.

Target is in the front region; there are 30 distractors.
