ADMISSION POLICIES FOR STEPHEN F. AUSTIN

 

FRESHMAN ADMISSION POLICY

1. 1977-1980: Minimum of ACT of 18 or a satisfactorypredictive score

2. 1980-1984: Minimum ACT of 18 or SAT of 800 or rankedin top half

3. 1984-1994: Minimum ACT of 20 or SAT of 900 or rankedin top half

4. 1994-1995: Applicants with minimum of 21 on ACT or900 on SAT who are

in the top 60% of high school class are eligible; students withminimum of

19 on ACT or 800 on SAT who are in the top 50% of class areeligible;

students in the third quarter of high school class with a minimumof 17 on

the ACT or 700 on SAT must provide additional information and willbe

selected on a case by case review; No student in the fourthquarter of

his/her high school class is eligible for clear admission, but canattend

the "PREP"program in the summer or fall. No financial aid isavailable for

this program, as the students are not considered to bematriculated into

the university. 12 semester hours with a C average must becompleted at

SFA in the summer or, 15 hours in the fall semester must becompleted for

the student to be able to continue at SFA. The PREP studentcannot partake

of any university sports or organizations.

5. 1995-1999: Minimum ACT of 21 or SAT of 1010 (ACT andSAT readjusted

their scoring) or ranked in top half.

 

Freshmen not meeting this policy must attend SFA for the entiresummer and

pass 12 hours with a C average or be admitted by AOP (academicopportunity

program). Several deans review the applications and letters of

recommendation for these students and admit those with the mostpotential.

 

TRANSFER ADMISSION POLICY

An overall 2.0 gpa required for all transfers for fall and spring

semesters. Less than 2.0 must enter in the summer or be admittedby

appeals (This appeals committee is also made up of academicdeans).

 

MATURE STUDENTS AND NON DEGREE SEEKING STUDENTS

1. Mature students( who have not attended high school for threeyears,

which translate to 21 years of age) must provide GED results orhigh school

diploma. In some cases the ACT or SAT will be required. Anystudent having

fifteen or more college hours cannot be classified as a maturestudent.

Mature students are admitted after being evaluated by anadmissions counselor.

2. Non-degree seeking students are students who have not beenenrolled in

a formal high school program for three years and are not oncurrent

suspension from another college. These students are takingcourses for

self-improvement, personal enrichment, or job advancement and canonly take

4 semester hours a semester for a total of 24 hours.
